That’s why you cannot breed a spotted dog and a rainbow female dog and get spotted rainbow puppies. On the other hand, The Sims 4 doesn’t support layers of coats. The results of pet breeding in The Sims 3 are unpredictable. If you’ve played The Sims 3, you know the game combines the coat of both parents and the offspring get a nice mix of the two. There is not much variety for genetics as in The Sims 3. The breeding genetics in the Sims 4 have let many Simmers down. For instance, a kitten may get their tail from the mom, and eyes or ears from the dad. On closer look, they do get a mix of features from each. The good news is that kittens and puppies don’t look 100 percent like one of their parents.

Having kittens and puppies that look exactly like their dad or mom is not really exciting.
The female offspring often get the mom’s patterns while the males get the dad’s. In other words, kittens and puppies get their coat from either parent A or parent B. Instead, the game simply switches between the two coats. Custom coats don’t mix with other painted coats or presets.
Kittens and puppies are clones of one of their parents instead of a nice mix. The offspring get various parts from one parent or the other. There is no gene mixing for cats and dogs in The Sims 4.
